Project Description:
Farnham Estate is a 17th Century Estate House which was converted to a Hotel and Golf Resort in 2005. We are currently engaged in 3 projects at Farnham.
The first involves the restoration and conversion of an old Dairy Building to a Fine Dining Restaurant with 140 covers. This is an integral part of the protected structure. Fundamental to the design concept applied to the ‘Cedars Rooms’ Restaurant is a design awareness, taking into account the significance of the historical stone building itself and also the surrounding nature by implementing authenticity and simplicity as well as a modern intervention of design. The key design element was how to retain the original character of the historic building whilst transforming it into a new, modern, innovative design which would make the restaurant an enjoyable experience for the guests. Huge emphasis was made on retaining the original stone and brick interiors to create a visual link to its former use. It was important to us to maintain a cohesive design throughout the space, using materials which were subtle yet complimentary to the exposed stone while also being in keeping with its modernity. Design references were drawn from both from the existing hotel estate and from the extensive forestry surrounding the hotel.
Throughout the restaurant, the materials have been carefully selected to be of a high quality that are natural and understated. Given the extensive forestry and the historical reference of the Cedar tree on the estate, a mix of solid wood and oak flooring was introduced through the space. Custom furniture with subtle velvet fabric and floral accents, create a modern yet subdued palette, resulting in an atmosphere of luxury and ambience. The natural interiors complement the historic building and also serve to draw the connection with the green forestry outside.
The carefully selected artwork forms a key component of the general design concept. It was important to us to allow the building to speak for itself and to use the exposed stone walls as the canvas for the collection of Irish artworks selected throughout the space.
The second project at Farnham involves the construction of a new Golf Clubhouse facility in a new location adjacent to the 18th green. This will greatly improve the relationship between the golf course and the hotel both visually and interactively. Both projects are due for completion in 2018.
Finally the third project involves an upgrade to the Spa facility, including extensions to accommodate additional treatment rooms and a wellness centre.
