New House, Woodlands Park, Blackrock
Project Description:
Our client decided to construct a new home for themselves in their existing garden. There were 3 key design requirements; the house must be full of light, provide framed views to the mature gardens and provide generously sized living areas. The nature of the infill site, along with the need to prevent overlooking to adjoining properties restricted the size of the house to 10m x 10m at ground floor and 10m x 6m at first floor. In order to meet the required level of accommodation a basement floor was required, with natural light provided through a generous light well along the south-west boundary. A light buff brick was selected as the primary external material, along with a composite window system which help the building to blend nicely into the surrounding neighbourhood. The light flooded living areas along with the 2 storey entrance volume provide a striking contemporary interior to this family home. Our sustainable design approach resulted in this house achieving a BER rating of A2.
