Project Description:

This project comprises the restoration and extension of a terrace of two houses located at the rear of the site and the construction of two new townhouses to the front of the site. Central to the design approach was the need to balance the requirements of the design brief with the protection of the special character and setting of the existing houses. The protection of the amenities of the surrounding properties is also a key consideration in the design process.

Part of the unique character of the existing houses is that they face onto an internal avenue. The proposed new townhouses are conceived as a continuation of the existing terrace and are orientated towards the internal avenue. A limited selection of materials is used, comprising lime render, a buff beige heritage brick, natural slate and a grey coloured cladding panel.

4 units are provided in total and include a mix of 3 and 4 bedrooms. Two 2,500sqft new townhouses units occupy the front of the site, with the existing terrace of two houses comprising 1,500sqft & 2,500sqft restored in accordance with good conservation principals and guidelines. ​
